Scientists still don't know exactly what causes adult ADHD or what conditions are responsible for the disorder. Most agree that ADHD is a neurological disorder of the nervous system that affects several areas of the brain, including those responsible for behavior, working memory, and executive functions. Researchers also know that adult ADHD is a highly genetic disease. Unfortunately, the symptoms of adult ADHD manifest differently in different people, so it can be difficult to recognize and diagnose.
