Personal Growth

Personal growth is exploring the unknown in one's life as well as further refining and developing existing skills and interests. Don't let this be frightening. Yes, personal growth does require taking some risks. However, nothing compares to the risk of being involved in addictions.

As always, strive to maintain a balanced approach to personal growth. This may mean trying something new physically, mentally, and spiritually. Learn a new sport, take a course studying a new subject, try a new approach to spiritual growth. Personal growth can be a great adventure, something to look forward to with anticipation and delight.

Again, take it slowly, especially at first. Enjoy the process as well as the result. Try one new thing at a time, savor it fully before moving on to the next thing. Consider this: to avoid personal growth is to leave a vacuum that may make old addictive behaviors attractive again. Boredom is a dangerous enemy when it comes to recovery.
