It continues to be controversial to consider behaviors as addictions. There are those who believe that referring to a behavior such as shopping/spending, exercise, television, and so forth as an addiction is only an excuse for being irresponsible. However, there is more and more evidence to suggest that certain behaviors do exhibit characteristics that qualify them to be included as addictions. Both biological and environmental influences have been discovered that help explain out-of-control, impulsive behaviors.
